*AD

We were invited to have a sneak peek at the brand new Park Head Hotel in Bishop Auckland, part of The Auckland Project family a few weeks ago. Today we have been back to try out the brand new Sunday Lunch menu.

Today we visited to try out the Sunday lunch Menu. Priced as follows

1 course - £14

2 course - £18

3 course - £21

Served from 12 noon - 4pm

Find the Menu HERE

We went for the 3 courses so we could sample as much of the food on offer to give an honest review. Here is what we ordered

Starters

3x Smoked Haddock Fishcake

1 Goats Cheese & Onion Tart

1 Broccoli Soup

Mains

All served with:

Carrot, Carrot puree, Parsnip. Roast potatoes, Mash, Cabbage, Broccoli Cheese, 1 Yorkshire Pudding and Roast Gravy

We chose:

3x Chicken

2 Pork

Desserts

4 Sticky Toffee Pudding

1 Chocolate Brownie

Choice of Custard or Ice Cream

Drinks we just had a coke each and a glass of water although there is a large range of drinks available including alcoholic drinks.

Thoughts

The food came with Gravy on it which would be better served in a gravy boat. This is purely my personal preference as I do not eat any beef products.

I would love to see Turkey on the menu.

The Menu.....

Needs to be more in depth with descriptions, as not everyone will know what a roasted vegetable Pithivier is. (It's kind of like a round pie with filling in between layers)

The fishcakes had chilli in them and this really needs to be made clear on the menu. Maybe adding something like Breadsticks as a starter for those with a simple palate.

The desserts were the best bit, in fact the sticky toffee pudding is a firm second for our favourite so far.

I did notice a kids Sunday lunch menu with things like chicken Goujons, fish fingers etc HERE

All in all it was a lovely meal, with a few teething problems but it has only been open for 2 weeks, I am sure things will smooth out as they go along. We would eat there again when we are passing.

Even if you aren't staying, you can pop in and enjoy the restaurant which is really nice, plenty of seating, bar, original fireplace and some lovely friendly staff members. Booking is

recommended.

The Hotel

The hotel is gorgeous! We had a sneak peek before it opened to the public.

I loved the décor which is not boring like some places we have been to and boasts bright colours with local art work instead of the usual white or 'cream'.

The rooms are lovely and spacious we had a look at a few different options and each room had loads of space with en-suite, desk, tea making bits and pieces wardrobe, TV etc. The family rooms are so much more than just a room with more beds. You get 2 separate bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a separate lounge area, which is great if the adults want to stay up later.

The hotel hopes to have a play area and a pizza oven ready for some summer fun on the patio. Dog friendly rooms are available and there's a walk directly opposite the hotel which is handy.

38 en-suite rooms Uses locally sourced food and food from the walled garden in the restaurant Kids activities in the oak room restaurant Pet friendly guest rooms in the courtyard with beds and bowls available to hire Free doggy treats for every dog Some gorgeous original features such as the fireplace King and super king rooms available Auckland walk directly opposite, perfect for dog walks Stones throw from attractions such as Auckland castle and deer park, tower, art gallery.

Park head hotel is part of the Auckland Project Family.
