We get lots of messages asking for free ideas, especially during the holidays so I have put together a handy list of things that are free for the remainder of the Summer holidays.

Things to do

30th July - 4th August Free 9 hole mini golf at Dalton Park

31st July Bugs & Crawlies - Grainger Market from 11am

3rd/4th Seaham Food Festival - Free entry, please be aware parking charges apply

3rd Northumberland Police family fun day - Middle engine lane HQ

6th Kids fun fest South Shields Amphitheatre

8th-11th Novum Festival Newcastle have free activities at various locations.

11th Whitley bay sandcastle competition

11th Pride in the park Darlington

12th Puppet trail Shields road (collect a trail sheet from east end pool)

24th/25th Between the tides festival - Redcar

Every Monday, Saturday & Sunday you can enjoy Metrognomes & The Dino King at The Metrocentre.

Every Wednesday Crafts at Arbeia

Visit the newly opened Hopetown in Darlington

Forestry England have kids trails running (you can purchase the activity pack but you don't need to to complete the trails)

Get into Newcastle have some fab free events running, such as:

Screen on the Green - Enjoy two movies every day for free. Also selected days with added activities.

Tiny Toon - Old Eldon Square Running throughout the holidays





Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens has lots of free events running (some need to be booked so please check)

Arty Fridays - 2nd, 9th, 22nd

History Mondays - 5th, 12th, 19th

Portrait Station - Throughout

Bug Hunting in the community garden 14th




Other free ideas

Head to the beach for the day- Seaglass hunting, look for Dolphins and other sea creatures

Rock pooling

Use your annual passes

Visit a free museum

Create your own scavenger hunt

Head to the park

Head to a free splash pad

Love trains? Locomotion is completely free

Danby Lodge National Park centre is a fantastic day out
