Blogtober day 10 ~ What to do in Edinburgh for Halloween

Updated: Feb 19, 2020

Wow we are onto Blogtober day 10! It is going super fast.

Halloween is fast approaching and we are starting to think about which Halloween events we want to get to this year. We are pretty lucky in that we live only a 40 minute drive from Edinburgh. A city with some pretty impressive and Gruesome History. Ghost stories that will bring a shiver to your soul. So what can you do in Edinburgh in October?

History of Halloween in Edinburgh

Mercat story tours Halloween tour ~ Unsettling at the best of times, the vaults are even more so around All Hallow’s Eve: the feeble candlelight barely touching the darkness, a movement in the shadows, the cling of cobwebs on a goose pimpled arm. You need to be 5+ to go on this tour

Edinburgh Dungeons The Home Of Halloween ~ NEW: The White Lady Ghost Show – exclusively part of the Dungeon tour during Halloween! Pumpkin Competition on National Pumpkin Day – 26th October.

Samhain Fire Festival ~ Samhuinn Fire Festival marks the transition from Winter to Summer with our characteristic mix of fireplay, drumming, and immersive performance.

Real Mary Kings Close ~  Supernatural History Tours will explore Edinburgh’s macabre stories of witchcraft and the supernatural as well as investigating some of the reported paranormal activities on the Close, including the revealing of electronic voice recordings!

Royal Botanic garden Edinburgh ~ Join us for our annual RBGE Halloween Trail through the Garden to see what Caley, the good garden witch, and Mì-àgh the cat, are planning.

You could also visit some of the other wonderful attractions on offer such as:

  1. Edinburgh Castle ~ . The sound of drums, unexplained knocking sounds and mysterious orbs have all been reported.

  2. Greyfriars Kirkyard ~ Edinburgh’s famous Haunted Graveyard!

  3. Camera Obscura world of illusions

  4. Craigmillar Castle

  5. Edinburgh Zoo

  6. National Museum Scotland

  7. Holyrood House

  8. Dynamic Earth

You could always check out what’s on at the many theatres too. Although the shows tend to be more adult based,
