With so many different councils choosing different dates for the half term break, it can get confusing when looking at ideas for days out, events or planning childcare. Add to that colleges, church schools and academies and it can get even more confusing.

Read on to find half term dates and some great ideas for days out.

Half Term dates by local council area.

The following dates apply to the majority of schools in each area, though some schools (especially church schools) may have slightly different dates, so I always advise checking with your child's school. Dates are those when the schools will be closed and do not include the day the schools break up or re-open.

Northumberland 14th - 22nd February

North Tyneside 14th - 22nd February

Newcastle 14th - 22nd February

South Tyneside 21st February - 1st March

Gateshead 21st February -1st March

Sunderland 21st February - 1st March

County Durham 21st February - 1st March

Hartlepool 21st February - 1st March
