Visiting World of Volvo in Gothenburg: A Huge Attraction Worth Exploring

During our trip to Sweden, we visited World of Volvo in Gothenburg, and the first thing I have to say is that it was massive!

It was one of several museums we included in our itinerary, but this visit deserves a post of its own. There was plenty to explore, and although it cost more than some of the other museums we visited, I thought it was worth the price.

We also stopped for lunch while we were there, where I found a lovely gluten-free meal.

World of Volvo

If you’re planning a similar visit, the current attraction is called World of Volvo. Its exhibition explores Volvo’s history, innovations and ideas for the future, combining vehicles with digital displays and interactive experiences.

That gives the visit more variety than simply looking at a collection of cars. There are different ways to explore the story behind the brand, with interactive elements intended for both younger and older visitors.

The Size Was Impressive

The sheer size was one of the things that stood out most to me.

The exhibition covers 4,500 square metres, which helps explain why it felt so big. World of Volvo suggests allowing around one and a half to two hours for the exhibition, although how long you spend will depend on how closely you want to explore everything.

I would leave enough time to look around without rushing, especially if you’re also planning to stop for lunch.

Our Sweden itinerary included plenty of outdoor exploring, from the trails on Vrångö to the waterfall on the Norwegian border, so this made a good indoor addition to the trip.

Was It Worth the Admission Price?

In my opinion, yes.

We found the costs at several of Gothenburg’s museums reasonable, and while World of Volvo has a higher admission price, I felt this visit was worth it.

The building is free to enter, but you need a paid ticket for the exhibition. There are separate adult, child, youth, student and senior prices, as well as a family-ticket option.

It’s worth checking the current prices for your group before visiting. The free-entry policy for under-20s at some of Gothenburg’s other museums doesn’t apply to the World of Volvo exhibition.

Our Gluten-Free Lunch

We also ate here during our visit, choosing from a buffet where we could pick what we wanted.

On the day we went, there were salads, potatoes, fish, steak and other options. I chose steak with potato gratin and salad, which made a lovely lunch during our day out.

As someone who eats gluten free, it was great to find a meal I could enjoy as part of the visit rather than having to head elsewhere to eat.

That was the selection available on our day, so check what’s being served when you visit and speak to staff about ingredients and preparation if you need gluten-free food. You can also enter the café without paying for admission to the exhibition so if you fancy a cheapish meal head here.

Planning Your Visit

I would give yourself a decent amount of time here. The exhibition is large, and adding a lunch stop makes it easy to turn the visit into a substantial part of your day.

Before travelling, check the official World of Volvo website for opening hours, exhibition tickets and the latest visitor information.

If you’re visiting as a family, compare the individual ticket prices with the family option to see what works best for you.

Would I Recommend It?

Yes. World of Volvo is massive, and I thought it was worth the admission price.

It added something different to our trip, alongside the art museum, aquarium, island walks and our brilliant Halloween evening at Liseberg.

Having a good gluten-free lunch available was a bonus too. If you’re putting together a Gothenburg itinerary, World of Volvo is worth considering just leave yourself enough time to explore.
