The Christmas Market Guide to The North East

We are originally from the North East, Sunderland to be exact. We still visit the North East quite regularly and attend various events in the region. Christmas is just a special time of the year and I adore spending time with my family getting into the festive spirit.

Here is my Must visit list of Christmas events to visit in the North East 2018

November

One of the largest Christmas fayres in the area with lots of food and craft stalls, a

nd so much more. There is wheelchair access and both parking and entrance is FREE.

'Get ahead of the Christmas rush and into the festive spirit at Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens this November. Our traditional festive gift fair is a fantastic alternative to the high street with a wide variety of specialist crafts and handmade gifts for sale. You’ll be sure to find the perfect present for friends and family amongst the stalls.

Local choirs will be singing all of your favourite carols so do join in if you're feeling in the festive spirit! Good little girls and boys will also have the chance to meet our Victorian Father Christmas and receive an early Christmas gift. This is bookable on site, on the day and there is a small charge for each child.'

'Each year Christmas comes early with the famous Festive Shopping Fayre. The smell of gingerbread, mulled wine and the sweet sound of the Christmas choir will get you in the Christmas spirit. There’s lots to see and do, including more than 150 stalls filled with the finest handmade gifts, jewellery, fashion and food.'

'Christmas is coming, and the challenge is on to find interesting and unique presents for friends and relatives of all ages. At Brancepeth Castle’s Christmas craft fair there will be something for everyone, with over 70 craftspeople showing what they have made, including jewellery, woodworking, soft furnishings, sweets, cosmetics, cheese, cakes, plants, upholstery and glassware. If you can’t see exactly what you want, you can usually discuss what you are looking for with the stallholder, who will also be the maker. Many will be able to take commissions for bespoke items. There are also 2 cafes with a wide variety of home-made food and drink for lunch or just a snack. The number of days for Christmas shopping is getting less; make one of those days a visit to Brancepeth – see inside the historic castle and enjoy the craft fair. '

' A fine selection of quality stalls who supply unique and inspired gifts.  This year located in the accessible car park at the foot of The Treehouse.'

' With stalls selling beautiful arts and crafts, jewellery, trinkets, decorations and unique festive food, this is the perfect place to pick up a fantastic selection of presents.

' This popular market returns in 2018, offering a wide range of stalls selling local and artisan foods, gifts and crafts. With around fifty stalls there is certainly plenty to choose from, whether shopping for Christmas gifts or simply treating yourself.

Alongside the stalls there is a selection of delicious street-food and refreshments, including locally reared hog-roast, wood-fired pizza baked as you wait, and a traditional fish and chip van. Children can watch Santa arrive with his donkeys then visit him, and his donkeys, at his grotto.
