October Half Term - North East Guide





October half term is almost here and there are so many fantastic events going on across the North East this year. I am just happy that events can go ahead this year because, let's face it, last year was rubbish.

Sunderland Festival Of Lights 14th Oct then every Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday until the 13th November. Illuminations are on everyday throughout Half term.

The festival is making a comeback to Roker Park this year with a mix of old and new including a Funfair on Cliffe park. Booking is required. We are heading along for opening night so keep an eye out on socials for pics and a review.


Ford & Etal Scarycrow Trail

The infamous trail is back from 25th Oct - 31 Oct. You can either download a map and trail sheet or grab them from the many attractions. As you make your way around score each Scarecrow and then hand in your sheet ready for the voting.

We highly recommend this event and have took part a few times when we lived close by.

Preston Park's Magical Creatures - 23rd Oct - 31st Oct

Dress up in your favourite costume and head along to Preston Park, 6 magical creatures have escaped and are lurking around the Victorian Street can you help find them? Various activities throughout the day as well as North Yorkshire Birds of Prey will be visiting with the owls throughout Half Term. Normal admission charges apply. For more info click HERE

Lots of extra activities including Giant scarecrows, Haunted sheep race, mini monster race and lots lots more. Booking is required.

We will be heading down before it opens to the public so watch out for our review.

Halloween Happenings 21st - 31st Oct Follow the Halloween Trail through the decorated house and then into the poison garden trail.

Witches Dance 23rd - 31st Oct Join the friendly witches and learn some dance moves


Hamsterley Forest Halloween Happenings trail 22nd - 31st Oct

The Hamsterley witches have lost there cats in the forest, can you help find them?

1km trail, sheets available from the info point and £3 includes a delicious Hot Chocolate.



WWT Washington What lurks beneath Trail Throughout October

Join the WWT this October on an all new Interactive trail.

We are heading along to try out the trail this week so keep an eye out for the review.

Mackem Monsters 22nd - 31st October

The larger than life inflatable Mackem Monsters are making a return for 10 days. We are heading to town on the launch day to see who we can spot.


Sunderland Community Halloween parade 29th Oct 5.30pm will start at Sunderland Museum and end at the Crowtree site.
