There are loads of events on throughout this May half term, so I thought I would pop together some of the free events that are taking place across the region.
Half term takes place 24th May - 1st June

All of the events listed below are free and all venues are free entry - some events may require booking so please double check.
What's On
The museum is now free entry and they have some fantastic events running throughout Half term including:
27th - Railway Storytelling - Pre booking is recommended
31st - Gem Arts Mini Mela suitable for ages 4+ - Pre booking is recommended
24th-1st Play-town on the platform suitable for ages 7 and under
The museum also have some fab free interactive equipment
Please note there's a charge for the large play area
Free entry and is such a great museum not only can you spend the day looking at the exhibits, they also have some fun events taking place including:
26 - 1 Blossom Exhibition with various crafts
27th Mouse tales suitable for ages 5 and under and booking is required
28th Blossom paper crafts
24th - 1st Underground Murray the Mole trail
Mouse house will be open throughout
Small charge for the planetarium
Oriental Museum Durham
The museum is free entry, no booking is required
24th Camel caravan exhibition with make your own camel art
28th Little dragons suitable for under 5s
28th Bloom room - Decorate giant Flowers
30th Crypt curses - Make your own lucky charm
31st Sketch up - Drawing and sketching activities
Some activities have a fee but there are still plenty of free activities including:
Fancy dress and best dressed competition
Meet the wizards dragon
Owl trail ( you can collect a map from Visit York )

Black Cat Quest - Cat Gallery

24th-26th 1940s Weekend at Brocksbushes farm
24th - 1st Stickman trail at Forestry England sites (you do not need to purchase the trail pack to do the trail)
26th Spot the Otter at Preston Park - Meet at the main entrance of the museum at 10am
27th Drop in crafts at South Shields Museum
27th Tractors & Trailers day - Darlington Market Square
27th Wonderful Worms at Northumberlandia - Booking recommended
28th Drawing activities at Arbeia Museum
31st Pond dipping - St Nicholas Park
31st Emergency service day - Darlington market square

If you have annual passes for attractions - Put them to good use. National Trust and English Heritage have loads of events running throughout Half term, free to members.
Beach walk - If the weather is nice then why not head out to your favourite beach and relax while your kiddies make some sand art. You could create a beach I-spy. Make some sandwiches to keep the cost down. Beautiful Beaches within an hour of Newcastle
Head to your local park for a few hours, there's loads of parks in the North East.
You could combine a visit to Penshaw monument with a walk through Herrington park and play park.
