Beamish is one of my favourite places to head for the day. I just love going back in time and wandering around the many parts of the museum. Over the last few years we have always visited on the run up to Christmas and I love seeing the tradional decorations.

🎄We decided to pop along on Wednesday to have a look around. I did have an appointment on the morning so we didnt get there until lunch time so our itineary looked like this...

🎄First stop was Davy's for lunch - We just walked to the chippy which is only a 5 minute walk. Very little queue and spaces on the tables to sit indoors. Lovely atmosphere in here and you get chatting to other visitors too.
We always head to Davys for dab and Chips, it is delicious. We have been to the 50s chippy but I much prefer Davy's as there's no where to sit in the 50s and with a clumsy 11 year old, we need a seat!
🎄After lunch we had a walk around the pit village which is looking lovely and festive. Although the museum wasn't very busy, there was still plenty of staff around and the boys even had a lovely demostartion all to themselves in the winding house. I always find the staff here to be very welcoming and they all seem to love being there. Everything has been decoarated in traditional decorations such as paper chains. You will see the difference in the cottages, the widow has newspaper chains because she has no money and the others have coloured chains. The school looks lovely too with decorations and the fire was a very nice welcome because it was freezing!
🎄We then headed through the woods where you will find some very naughty elves. I am not saying anything else because I don't want to ruin it for anyone who is planning on going.
🎄We made our way to Pockerley Waggonway where we sat for a while in front of the open fire which was lovely and warm and we didnt want to move. We had a walk down to the church and then up to the hall which is my favourite part. I love it here. It's original too which is crazy to think it has been there all that time and the view they must have had back in its day would have been epic.
🎄We hopped onto a bus into the town and honestly it is super festive. I love the decorations. We walked down one side in and out of the buildings and stopped at the sweet shop for some festive mix and some other goodies. Into the 50s for a hot chcoloate from John's Cafe and then back into the town on the other side and in and out. We stopped at the bakery for some delicious cakes and bakes and then we hopped back onto a bus to the exit.
We are hoping to get back one day next week and do the rest as I always enjoy a visit to the 40s farm and the funfair looked gorgeous as the sun was going down.

🎄There will be delightful decorations, festive food, merry music and Christmas crafts.
🎄As you walk around the museum, keep an eye out for the elves who have escaped from Elf Wood, grab a copy of the free Elf Trail from the Entrance or the museum’s website and see if you can find all the elves.
🎄NEW FOR 2023! Help the museum celebrate Christmas in the 1950s aged mineworkers’ homes, council houses and police houses for the first time!
🎄Christmas at Beamish daytimes are included in admission and are free to Unlimited Pass holders and Friends of Beamish members, pay once and visit free of charge for a year, including all daytime events.
🎄Beamish is open daily from 10am to 4pm (last admission 3pm, closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day).
