We headed down to North Yorkshire this week for a slightly chilly wander around Farndale.
We had hoped to see the annual display of thousands of Daffodils, but the recent bad weather has killed them off. We had planned to visit the week before but we ended up without a car for a few days and then we were busy. Although we didn't get to see many daffs on our walk it is still a lovely walk to do and we recommend it to anyone thinking of visiting.
Rumour Has it, Monks from Rievaulx Abbey were the first to plant daffodil bulbs. The plants here are protected to try and protect the valley
We started at the car park at Low Mill. There is an honesty box where you pay the £2.50 suggested donation parking charge.
From the car park, the route is clearly signposted and is super easy to follows as most of
the way there is a paved path to follow. You do have to go through lots of gates so please make sure you close the gates behind you!
The walk follows the gorgeous River Dove as far as Daffy Café, Farndale .
We stopped at the café, which has indoor and outdoor seating, for tea and cakes and we met the Daffy Café dog Cilla who was adorable! The prices were not too bad for the café.
The weather took a bit of a turn (snow), so we headed back to the car after the café.
This section of the walk took us around 50 minutes each way.
The weather was absolutely mad! When we got out of the car at the car park it was chilly but sunny, it then changed so quickly to rain then hail then snow and then sunny again by the time we got back to the car. We are experienced walkers especially in the Yorkshire areas so please make sure you check the weather and you are prepared for it to change.
Other than a couple of steep sections, the route is mostly flat and I would say it is suitable for buggies with bigger wheels, but probably not suitable for wheelchairs. Theres a few benches to rest along the way.
You can extend the walk beyond the café, to Feversham Arms Inn Farndale , which we will be doing next time.

The walk is around 3.5 miles
Toilets at the car park and Inside and outside of the Café
Sturdy footwear advised. Some parts were very muddy.
Dogs must be kept on lead, due to livestock.
Dogs are welcome in the café.
It is best to keep an eye out on the Farndale Facebook page for the best times to catch the daffodils.
